During this challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic, many in Salt Lake City, Utah and across the globe are concerned about the health and safety of their family and loved ones.
There’s currently not a vaccine for the coronavirus, which makes the current situation especially worrisome for those who are more at risk of developing serious complications—like older adults or individuals with underlying medical conditions. However, people of all ages are being affected.
Even those who don’t experience symptoms at all may be carriers who unknowingly spread COVID-19 to others through close contact or respiratory droplets when sneezing or coughing.
How To Help Stop The Spread of COVID-19
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the most effective way to prevent illness is to avoid exposure to the virus. This means it’s not only crucial to protect yourself, but to take necessary precautions to protect others as well.
To help in this effort, the CDC recommends individuals frequently wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. This is especially important after being out in public, coughing, sneezing, or using the restroom. Hand sanitizer containing a minimum of 60% alcohol is also effective if soap and water aren’t readily available.
Additionally, avoid touching your face—including eyes, nose, and mouth—and avoid close contact with individuals who are sick. When going to necessary public places like the grocery store or pharmacy, keep a safe distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and others.
Disinfect Surfaces Frequently
Social distancing and not going out to public places unless absolutely necessary is crucial. It’s also important to make sure your home environment is clean and safe—especially since more time will be spent there.
The CDC recommends disinfecting surfaces you touch frequently each day. This may include areas like cell phones, doorknobs, light switches, faucets, toilet handles, countertops, computer keyboards, refrigerator handles, and more.
